Touch Designer example: sound analysis

By admin, 2 May, 2023

In this example we will look at analysing sound data.

This example handlers three different kids of sound data: an audio in file (that contains an mp3 file), an audio source (which can be an audio interface) or a link to your Ableton. A fourth option is to use TD Ableton, but therefore your will need Ableton Suite.

We switch between the three audio sources with a switch, like we have used in previous examples. We can use the audio again to send to an audio output (sound system or an audio interface) with the audio devout operator.

When we have chosen a sound source we have to combine the left and right channel to one source of data, based on the average values of both channels. And use a spectrum analyser to get values between 0 and 1. To get to the evolution of values we use an envelope generator and a math to get a trail of the data. Limiting the data according to a specific frequency is done with the trigger or with the limit chop.
